Unfortunately, during peak traffic hours, there is no road space available to go "around congestion" unless we accept the introduction of suitable demand management sustems!
About ants:
Well, first of all (even if they mostly move along 2-way lines) they have an open surface to move on ... Then they "talk" friendly to each other as they come across and they also tend to avoid intersections in their moving. That's what seems relevant in terms of ant traffic; perhaps more important, ants belong to the kind of animal species that aim at social co-operation rather that at social competition. On the contrary, even in the GIO discussions, some of the "experts" have claimed that any further step in "regulating" traffic may prevent suitable technology innovations: should that actually be the case, let's wait for the smart cars to become fully autodriven and get rid of all street ligths so that the cars themselves can manage to get us where we will tell them to go.
In the meantime we can go back to just walking (like ants!).

Navigation around traffic is the best way to save time and CO2 emissions. Intellione uses annonymous data from the cellular network to create road speeds on virtually every highway and street in the coverage area on a real time basis. This allows for potential navigation around congestion. The same system can be used to measure traffic inexpensively which is the first step in reducing it.

The focus for government, corporations, and others is to remove automobiles from cities. Finding ways to move automobiles easier, faster, simpler is a bandaid

Busy street where lots people are walking and car cann't make a right turn, Can we install a purple lights that call people light, this light should be turned on same time from both sides , so all 4 side people moves and than cars can move when it when light turns green for cars.
