Fantastic goods from you, man. I have understand your stuff previous to and you are just too fantastic. I actually like what you've acquired here, certainly like what you are saying and the way in which you say it. You make it entertaining and you still care for to keep it smart. I can't wait to read far more from you. This is really a wonderful site.

Jack,
Not surprised to see that you are up to new and innovative thoughts and initiatives. Smarter planet sounds awesome. Just wanted to put a plug in for Gary Z. I had the opportunity to co-create with him while we were trying to grapple with IBM's On Demand Learning strategy.
I had a blast and learned a lot. The process he uses is awesome and opens up a whole new world of insight. In fact I am hoping that we will get to collaborate again on a book I am doing that is focused on the IMMernet (Immersive Internet).
Take care and keep in touch. I am at Duke Fuqua School of Business now....to15@duke.edu
All the best for 2009

In 1997, Lev Grossman wrote, "The Future is Here, and it isn't Teletext" (Netly News, an effort of Time Inc. New Media.) Well, that same "vertical blanking interval" we created content for in 1981 is now the focus of much attention since Google is looking to this "white space" for the delivery of wireless content and applications.
The "wifi on steroids" that Jack references creates the preconditions for a dazzling array of location based services. Not only will physical objects and systems be imbedded with intelligence, but the air will be a ready canvas for conjuring of all sorts. Type "The cat is on the skateboard. The sandwich is in front of the cat..." (http://www.wordseye.com/view-picture?sid=11156), anchor it with GPS in front of Bill's house, and you've left an illustrated calling card for a rendezvous downtown. Marry these images to a set of light weight infra-red AR glasses and an illustrated world of images, prepared by your community of friends, comes to life in a kind of in-your-Facebook.
And the wonderful intersection of computing domains that Bob Coyne and Richard Sproat brought us through WordsEye (NLP and Graphics) is only one of a plethora of opportunities.
No doubt people are already developing myriad applications for "Air Graffiti" as Steve Crandall used to call this back in 2001 at AT&T Labs Research. "The Future is Here, and it isn't Teletext" was right. It's here, and every step we take can be infused by an intelligence that goes way beyond each of us - to that warm extension of knowledge and vision we call our "friends".
