Anwendbar auf Medikamente, Lebensmittel, Obst, Gemüse, Klebstoffe, eben alles was temperaturempfindlich reagiert.

There’s a growing awareness among healthcare professionals about “medical home.”  It has caught on globally and is building to a crescendo here in the US.  There is a great deal of agreement in the Patient Centered Primary Care Collaborative’s joint principles of a Medical Home and its ability to help with healthcare reform.   In fact, representatives from across the healthcare spectrum of large employers, pharmaceutical companies and healthcare organizations in the US and in 30 other countries regularly attend weekly PCPCC conference calls according to Edwina Rogers, Executive Director of the PCPCC .  Notably, everyone is focused on the fact  that  the Medical Home model of care  improves quality and patient satisfaction and contributes to lower overall healthcare costs.  IBM has just launched a new point of view on the topic :  Patient Centered Medical Home:  What, Why and How?.  You can download the paper and  watch a group of experts discussing  the importance of using IT in combination with the Medical Home primary care model for better, smarter outcomes.

Following is a guest post from Cameron Brooks, an executive in IBM’s Big Green Innovations group:

I just returned from the annual meeting of the Western Governors’ Association in Park City, Utah.  This 3-day meeting, hosted by Governor Huntsman of Utah, included the governors of nine western states and the premiers of three Canadian provinces.  They have a tough set of issues to tackle, including the growing and pervasive problem of managing climate change and the environment.  These issues are especially urgent for this group as the west is on the frontline of the battle against the environmental impacts of climate change.  Quite literally, this region is running out of water and experiencing an increasing number of wildfires, coastal flooding and droughts. We asked Randall Munroe, the genius behind the web-comic XKCD, to create a few comics just for our blog.  We didn’t give him much direction other than to riff on topics about building a smarter planet, similar to what he’s done in the past on green energy.    As a comedian, I’ll particularly thrilled to have this celeb comic strip artist contribute.   Wit has been part of our character at IBM for a long time, and our smarter planet blog team is a fan of using humor to tell stories, as you may have seen in the previous post.

Let me begin by introducing myself. I am a certified IT Solution Architect in the IBM Business Consulting group. Before joining IBM I was a hospital management systems consultant for the New York State Hospital Association, a Senior Manager at Mercy Hospital, a 500 bed acute care facility in Miami, FL and the Vice President of the South Florida Hospital Association, representing 43 of the largest hospitals in Florida. I believe that this resume qualifies me to critique the current state of our health care system.

Put yourself in a patient’s place. It’s not hard. Most likely you have been there one or more times. Now think, what is important to you as a patient? Continue Reading »
