I find Google Maps, in particular Street View so useful. I am able to check out areas that I need to get to and have familiarity beforehand. I am not familiar with the other tools in this article but they are an eye-opener for ideas.

Excellent little summary, thanks for sharing. I wonder how many more of these are out there, especially European ones, which, I expect, will probably often be in local language and thus harder to track down.
