BodyMedia has a vision that we’ll be the catalyst for a revolution – a revolution of self empowered healthcare. Since 1999, we’ve made lots of progress towards this vision and during the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas; we will feature our latest system improvements. Utilizing IBM WebSphere Decision Management software, the FITCoach, is a great step forward towards a new wave of self-empowered healthcare and it may make 2012 a landmark year in making our vision a reality.

Anyone who knows anything about our BodyMedia system understands that we collect LOTS of data on each user.  Now with the help of IBM analytics software, we have launched an industry-first personalized feedback system. Called BodyMedia FITcoach, this new offering reaches into the depth and breadth of all the data we collect on a user to give customized feedback to help that individual reach his daily goals.

IBM Business Partner Summa Technologies was a great collaborator to make this new feedback system a reality by deploying a first-of-its-kind technology for the project.

The FITcoach can be a best friend, mentor and guide, tailoring advice based on a user’s physical activity, sleep, food consumption and weight loss goals. Using a predictive calculation unique for each person, we can help users understand if they will fall short of daily goals and will offer precise suggestion that help make the goal a reality – like hopping on the treadmill for twenty minutes or taking a ten minute walk outside or even providing meal suggestions.

Summa used their deep expertise, combined with the IBM Decision Management platform, to apply this intelligent feedback technology to our millions of data points and learning about the human body that we collect with our Armbands and online Activity Manager.

The back-end inner workings of how a product like this is created are very complex, but the benefit for the BodyMedia user is simple – more control and more information. And we’re very excited about working with leaders like Summa Technologies and IBM to make our already category leading product even better.   We love to push the envelope of innovation and technology and this is no exception!  We particularly enjoy working with partners like IBM who think like we do.

The feedback engine can also be customized for partners and has already been incorporated into the Jillian Michaels 360o Weight Loss Navigator, a weight loss support program by the celebrity fitness trainer that incorporated the entire BodyMedia system.    You can hear Jillian talk more about  the impact of digital innovation and her recent partnership with BodyMedia when she kicks off FitnessTech at CES 2012 on January 10th  10:30-11 a.m. in N256, North Hall.

As we enter a New Year, we are all looking at more ways to improve.  As a CEO of BodyMedia, I am driven to motivate people to take more control over their health and wellness, and I know new enhancements may be needed.  Companies like IBM that are investing time in health and wellness solutions are critical to the self-empowered healthcare revolution, and I thank them for the application of their analytics in this area. We hope this new product enhancement will help you achieve your personal resolution!

The FIT coach is available to BodyMedia users at no additional charge through the online Activity Manager software. Visit BodyMedia.com for more information.

Great read, it is very uplifting to hear a positive outlook on technology in a world where the negatives of technology are often highlighted.

Fortunately, this is a major concern and the responsibility
of everyone. Another benefit is that you do.
It doesn’t fly anymore, so it would be nice to see a company the size
of an airplane hangar serves as the final resting place for old electronics.

Almost all household trash can be recycled and used in making new products.

The next time I learn a weblog, I hope that it doesnt disappoint me as a lot as this one. I imply, I do know it was my option to learn, however I actually thought youd have one thing interesting to say. All I hear is a bunch of whining about one thing that you could repair if you werent too busy in search of attention.

The term Hinduism also occurs sporadically in Sanskrit texts such as the later Rajataranginis of Kashmir (Hinduka, c. 1450), some 16th-18th century Bengali Gaudiya Vaishnava texts, including Chaitanya Charitamrita and Chaitanya Bhagavata, usually to contrast Hindus with Yavanas or Mlecchas.-.*;

If you want to lose weight it’s vital to drink plenty of water throughout the day. Water is calorie free and drinking large amounts of it prevents you from quenching your thirst with high calorie sodas and fruit juices. The empty calories in these beverages will add up and make it terribly troublesome to lose weight.

Keep up the good work Christine.

What exactly is meditation? It seems that so many people nowadays are hooked up with this form of activity. By definition, meditation is often used to describe the individual’s state of intense attention on an object of awareness or thought. The individual tries to turn his or her attention inward. Meditation is said to be of Vedic Hinduism origin. This is usually practiced in the eastern religions but now even the western culture is already involved in such activity.

People want to practice meditation so that they can focus their mind to God for their personal development, to attain peace of mind, and to be healthier

[...] I myself make use of a bunch of these tools.  One of my favorites is Bill Guard, a crowd-sourced online service that monitors my credit card statements for potentially fraudulent activity.  Credit cards and financial data are already wonderfully integrated into our modern online worlds.  Health and fitness data is the newest frontier and CES this year shows a hugely increasing number of fitness products, from scales and work-out loggers to more advanced analytics.  BodyMedia is unveiling a fitness coach system that uses IBM analytics to help people get back in shape (see more here) [...]
