Since 2004, I’ve been working at the intersection of IBM’s strategic communications frontiers – most recently the Smarter Planet agenda – and emerging technology trends such as social computing, 3D/virtual innovations and electronic healthcare.
I helped architect and launch the Greater IBM Connection program, a business innovation network for IBMers past and present that now has more than 90,000 members. I co-founded IBM Virtual Universe Community, 5,000 IBMers around the globe working on the future of 3D environments.
As part of the communications team in IBM’s consulting unit, Global Business Services, I orchestrated the social and new media elements of the launch of the company’s new Business Analytics & Optimization Services, the biggest expansion of IBM’s consulting capabilities in a decade. The New Intelligence Video Studio is our new webcasting and video production and distribution channel. @ibmbizanlytics is our presence on Twitter, which you are welcome to follow.
Most recently, I've been advancing analytics and Smarter Planet through two projects with the fast-growing microblogging platform Tumblr. Our Smarter Planet | Tumblr site, a companion to this blog, is now feeding news and developments via RSS to all 21 topics at http://www.ibm.com/smarterplanet. And we're getting ready to launched the SmarterCities Scan: a multimedia collaborative intelligence project on building a planet of smarter cities.
Before joining IBM, my career spanned corporate communications at Time Warner, print and internet journalism at Time Inc. New Media, advertising and communications agencies. I also spent three years reporting on the commercialization of nanotechnology for Small Times, Technology Review, Salon, Forbes/Wolfe Nanotech Report and others.
I graduated from Brown University with a degree in semiotics and Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. My wife Jessica and I have two sons, ages 6 and 3.
