Later this year IBM Research – Zurich and ETH Zurich will unveil a ground-breaking new nanotechnology center. The new nano center will be used by IBM scientists to create more energy efficient chips for electronic devices.
The lab is based on a unique collaboration between the two organizations that can be traced back to 1956. The new building is very eco-friendly and employs several innovative technologies:
- Photovoltaic power system (solar panels)
- Geothermal heat exchange system, holes dug deep to the core of the Earth provide heat
- Heat recovery windows and cutting-edge HVAC systems
