Instrumented Interconnecteds Intelligent

Inspired by the IBM They Were There Video we developed a local Swiss version focused on Karl Kümmerle.

Kümmerle was the director of IBM Research – Zurich from 1989 – 1999.  A unique span that ranged from the recent highs of the Nobel Prizes just a few years earlier in 1986 and 1987 to the lows of the early 90′s when IBM nearly collapsed.

In the five minute look back, Kümmerle discusses two critical inventions developed during his tenure, including:

- laser technology, which was eventually sold to create another multi-billion company. Watch the video to find out, which one.

- token ring, which was plagued with problems but eventually went on to sell more than 10 million.

Take a walk down memory lane.
