IBM SFSP has joined hands with oikos Belfast Society (Students for Sustainable Economics and Management) to organise sustainability dialogues every month at Queen’s University Belfast. The first of these dialogues will be tomorrow (9 October 2012). Professor Tony Gallagher, Pro-Vice Chancellor will open the programme. Mr. Alex Attwood, MLA and Minister for the Environment, Northern Ireland is the Chief Guest. Other speakers in tomorrow’s dialogue are Mr.George Wharton, President, oikos Belfast Society and Ms. Nicola Keown, Assistant Environmental Manager, QUB Green Impact Initiative. The initiative got seed funding from QUB Dragon’s Den competition 2012. The Dialogues are also supported by the School of Geography, Archaeology and Palaeoecology at Queen’s and The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, Northern Ireland region. We hope to make this a regular and dynamic forum for all those interested in sustainability issues in Northern Ireland. The Young Researcher’s Forum for Sustainability being set up through oikos Belfast hope to take the lead for advancing this initiative. Ajith Kaliyath, a PhD student there is leading this effort. The QUB oikos club project is to organize a number of sustainability dialogues where high profile personalities discuss sustainability issues. The inaugural dialogue will take place next week and the headline speaker will be Alex Attwood, MLA, Minister for the Environment. He will be speaking in the Canada Room, one of the University’s most prestigious reception rooms, to an audience of 100 people on environmental policy in Northern Ireland. Students for a Smarter Planet supports the seminars with refreshments. Yum!
